Mississippi Wedding Venues: What to Ask Before You Book
Touring wedding venues is the most exciting part of planning. You walk into a beautiful space, you picture yourself walking down the aisle, and suddenly you are ready to sign on the dotted line. Take a breath for just a minute. The prettiest venue is not always the right venue, and the questions you ask on the tour will tell you more than the photos ever could.
After years of wedding days in Duck Hill, we have learned which questions actually matter. Here is what we wish every couple asked before booking a Mississippi wedding venue.
Is the Ceremony Space as Strong as the Reception Space?
This is the question most couples forget to ask, and it is the one that matters most. Many venues pour everything into the reception hall and treat the ceremony as an afterthought, a patch of grass or a corner of the same room where dinner happens later.
Your ceremony is the heart of the day. It is the part your guests will remember and the part your photos will capture forever. When you tour a Mississippi wedding venue, spend most of your time in the ceremony space. Sit where your guests will sit. Look at the light at your ceremony time. Ask where the wedding party enters and where the photographer will stand.
At Alvastage Acres, the chapel leads for a reason. Couples fall in love with the ceremony first, and everything else, the barn reception, the bridal house, the grounds, supports that moment. You deserve a ceremony space that gives you chills, so trust your heart on this one.

What Is Actually Included?
Every venue includes different things, so it helps to know exactly what your celebration includes. Ask which details are part of your day and which you would arrange separately, so everything feels clear and exciting from the start. On every tour, ask for the full inclusions list so you can compare apples to apples:
Tables, chairs, and linens: included or rented separately?
Setup and teardown: who takes care of it?
Getting-ready spaces: is there a bridal house or groom's area, and for how many hours?
Sound equipment: microphones and speakers for the ceremony, or do you need to rent them?
Parking and restrooms: adequate for your guest count?
Rehearsal time: is a rehearsal included, and when?
A venue that answers these clearly is a venue you can feel good about.
How Does the Day Flow From Start to Finish?
Ask the venue to walk you through a typical wedding day, hour by hour. Where does everyone get ready? Where do guests go while the wedding party takes photos? How does the transition from ceremony to reception work? Where does the sun set relative to your portrait location?
This is one of those details that makes a bigger difference than most couples expect. A venue with a beautiful chapel but no comfortable place for guests to gather during cocktail hour will feel chaotic. A venue where the bridal party has to drive across town for photos means less time celebrating with the people you love.
Look for a venue where the whole day happens in one flowing footprint. Getting ready in the bridal house, ceremony in the chapel, photos on the grounds, reception in the barn, all without loading anyone into cars. That flow is what makes a wedding day feel relaxed instead of rushed.
What Happens If It Rains?
In Mississippi, this one truly matters. Ask every venue to walk you through their exact rain plan. Where would the ceremony move? Is the backup space already set up, or would everything need to be rearranged at the last minute? Is the backup space just as beautiful in its own way?
The best venues have a rain plan they are proud of. If the answer feels vague, it is worth paying attention to that feeling.
Can We Stay on Site?
This is a question we love hearing, especially for destination weddings. If your venue offers weekend packages with cabins or on-site lodging, your wedding becomes a full weekend instead of a five-hour event. Your wedding party stays together. Nobody drives home tired. The morning after feels like a family reunion instead of a checkout deadline.
Ask what lodging is available, how many guests it sleeps, and whether it is included in packages or arranged separately.
Who Handles Photo, Video, and Music?
Some venues hand you a preferred vendor list and wish you luck. Others, like ours, have in-house photo and video teams. There is a real advantage to bundling: one team that already knows the light in the chapel, the best portrait spots on the grounds, and how the day flows. Couples who celebrate with us can also add our photo and video services, and DJ services are available as a lovely add-on.
Even if you bring your own vendors, ask about outside vendor policies, vendor meals, and setup timeframes. It is always better to know these things upfront.
The Questions Checklist
Bring this list on every tour:
Can we see the ceremony space at our ceremony time?
What exactly is included?
Walk us through the full day, hour by hour.
What is the exact rain plan?
Is on-site lodging available?
What are the policies for outside vendors?
How many weddings do you host per day or weekend?
When can we rehearse?
That last one is more important than it sounds. At Alvastage Acres, we host one wedding per weekend, so your celebration feels relaxed and unhurried from morning to last dance.

Trust What You Feel
Here is the question no checklist covers: how did the venue make you feel? The right Mississippi wedding venue should feel like exhaling. You should be able to picture your people there, not just your Pinterest board.
Ask every question on your mind, and then pay attention to your gut. The couples who love their wedding day the most are the ones who chose a venue that felt like home.
