Why Couples From Memphis, Jackson & Southaven Choose Alvastage Acres
Alvastage Acres sits out in the country near Duck Hill, but our couples don’t only come from around here. We’ve welcomed couples from Memphis, from Southaven, and from Jackson, who decided the drive out to the country was worth it.
If you live in one of those cities and you’re wondering whether a countryside wedding makes sense, here are the honest reasons we think city couples make the trip.
It’s an Easier Drive Than You’d Think
Duck Hill sits in North Mississippi, near Grenada and just off I-55. From Memphis, Southaven, or Jackson, it’s about an hour and a half to two hours on the interstate. That’s close enough for an easy Saturday drive, and far enough to feel like you’ve really gotten away.
I-55 runs both directions, so it works well when one family is up north and the other is down south. Guests from Memphis and Southaven can come down the interstate while guests from Jackson come up, and everyone meets in the middle.
A Historic Chapel You Can’t Find in the City
Hopewell Chapel is the heart of this place. It’s a restored historic chapel from the 1800s, and saying your vows inside walls that have stood that long feels different. You can’t build that kind of character from scratch, and you won’t find it tucked between city blocks.
If you’d rather get married under the open sky, we have outdoor ceremony options too. If you’ve been looking for a Mississippi chapel wedding venue with real history behind it, we’d love to show you Hopewell in person.
Everything in One Place
A city wedding can mean a ceremony in one spot, a reception across town, and a lot of time spent in cars in between. Here, everything happens on one property.
The bride and her girls can get ready in the Alva House bridal suite while the guys settle into the groom’s room. The ceremony happens in the chapel or outside, and the reception follows in our rustic barn. We even have a decor station to help with the finishing touches. You don’t need shuttles, you don’t sit in traffic, and nobody gets lost driving between locations.
More Room for What You Spend
In the city, space comes at a premium. Out here, it doesn’t. We can host up to about 250 guests, with open country all around you instead of a single rented room.
Our pricing starts at $1,500. You can see everything we offer on our What We Offer page and decide what fits your day and your budget.
Quiet Countryside and Photos to Match
Out here there’s no traffic noise, no other event next door, and no parking garage in the background of your pictures. You get the chapel, the barn, open land, and the kind of quiet where you can actually hear each other on your wedding day.
That quiet shows up in the photos too. Wedding photography and videography are available in-house through Colormake Weddings, so you don’t have to coordinate an outside team. You can take a look at our photos and videos to get a feel for it.
Turn It Into a Wedding Weekend
We have cabins on site for overnight stays, which changes the whole feel of a wedding. Instead of everyone driving in for a few hours and heading home, you can make a weekend of it. Close family can stay close, nobody has to rush off after the send-off, and the next morning you get a little more time together before everyone hits the road.
For couples coming from the city, that can be what makes the trip feel worth it. It stops being “the venue a couple hours away” and becomes a getaway.
For Our Memphis Couples
Memphis has plenty of great event spaces, but if you’re picturing something quieter, with a historic chapel and a barn instead of a ballroom, it’s worth the drive down I-55. If you’ve been searching for a barn wedding venue near Memphis that doesn’t feel like the city at all, we think you’ll feel right at home here.
For Southaven and DeSoto County Couples
If you live in Southaven or anywhere in DeSoto County, you’re already right on I-55. Just head south, and in about an hour and a half to two hours you’re out in the quiet Mississippi countryside. It’s an easy drive for you, and an easy one for family coming in from around the Mid-South.
For Our Jackson Couples
From Jackson, it’s a straight shot north on I-55. If you’re hoping for something that feels like old Mississippi, a restored 1800s chapel and a rustic barn out in the country fit that well. If you’ve been looking for a countryside venue near Jackson without a long haul, you’ll be here before you know it.
