From Starkville to Oxford: Why Couples Across North Mississippi Choose Alvastage Acres

Some of our favorite conversations start the same way: "We met at State," or "We met in Oxford," and then, a little sheepishly, "and our families are kind of split down the middle." We love those couples. Whether you bleed maroon, cheer for the Rebels, or are planning a house-divided wedding, we'd love to tell you why couples from Starkville, Oxford, Winona, and Grenada choose to say "I do" with us at Alvastage Acres.

A Reasonable Drive From Both Campuses

Our place sits at 3140 Alvastage Rd in Duck Hill, in between a lot of the towns our couples call home. Here's roughly what the drive looks like from Duck Hill (times are approximate and will vary with your route, traffic, and where in town you're starting):

  • Winona: about 20 minutes

  • Grenada: about 15 to 25 minutes

  • Oxford (Ole Miss): about 1 hour and 15 minutes

  • Starkville (MSU): about an hour

That means your college friends from either campus can make the trip in an afternoon, and family from Winona and Grenada are practically next door. If you've got loved ones coming up from farther south or down from the Memphis area, we wrote about that too in why Memphis, Jackson, and Southaven couples choose Alvastage Acres.

Hopewell Chapel: A Ceremony Space With History

Hopewell Chapel is a historic chapel that dates back to the 1800s, and we never get tired of seeing a bride walk through its doors. Inside, it seats about 100 guests, which feels warm and close for a smaller ceremony. If you'd rather be outdoors, an outdoor ceremony holds up to 200.

Our favorite trick? The chapel doors open, so you can have a mixed inside-and-outside ceremony. Your closest family can sit inside while everyone else gathers just outside the open doors, which lets over 300 people enjoy your ceremony together. For big college friend groups and big Mississippi families, that flexibility matters.

The Reception Barn: Room for Everyone

After the ceremony, the celebration moves to the Reception Barn. It holds about 220 guests inside, and with the outdoor area you can host 200 to 250. That gives you plenty of space for a dance floor, a long dinner, and the moment your State and Ole Miss friends finally agree on something: that you two belong together.

The Alva House: A Home Base for Your Day

Weddings involve a lot of getting ready, gathering, and catching your breath, and we wanted couples to have a real home base for all of it. That's what the Alva House is for.

  • Every package includes the Alva House living area and kitchen.

  • Saturday and weekend packages include the full Alva House, bedrooms included.

  • Weekend packages include overnight stays, so you don't have to rush out the door when the last song ends.

Cabins are also available, which can be a big help for out-of-town guests or a wedding party that wants to stay close.

Honest Pricing With No Hidden Fees

We know wedding budgets are real, especially for couples just a few years out of school. That's why we keep things straightforward: there are no hidden fees. We also cover your additional event insurance, so that's one less thing on your list.

Here's where our packages start:

  • Weekdays (Monday–Thursday): from $1,500

  • Saturdays: from $3,000

  • Weekends: from $4,000

You can see the details on our pricing page. A weekday wedding can be a lovely option for couples who want a more relaxed pace or a smaller guest list.

Photography and Videography Available

If you're still looking for someone to capture the day, photography and videography by Colormake Weddings are available. It's an easy way to have someone on hand to catch everything from the chapel doors opening to the last dance in the Reception Barn.
